Kingfisher Bay Resort - Fraser Island
After a well deserved holiday for everyone involved, we made our way up the coast for our annual Fraser Island holiday.
The cars were packed the night before fully equip with prams, fishing gear, sunscreen and snacks. We had been planning our little family getaway for months now and we were all so looking forward to breathing in a little fresh Island air.
4am came the morning of our travels and we were off. First stop was coffee of course. This is a must for mum (me) riding shotgun. Early morning starts and I usually aren't the best of friends. I just had to remember 4pm the same day would come and we'd be sitting at the Kingfisher Bay Resort watching the sun set. The plan; a cocktail in one hand, pram rocking in the other, enjoying some well needed R&R.
We had a total of 3 glorious nights at the Resort. We stayed in the self contained Villas up on the hill. They are getting a little old, but had everything you need. Beds are super comfy! If I can give any word of advice, bring a ton of Bushmans bug spray! And I mean a TON of it. The humidity and storms we had endured the first night stirred up the sand-flies, and they were rife!
On one of the nights we thought we'd treat ourselves to dinner. The Dads in our camp had been dreaming of a Seafood Tower since we'd booked the accommodation - if they were honest, the seafood feast was the draw card for the holiday! A way to a mans heart .... bla bla
We all of a sudden became the spectacle of the restaurant. Two HUGE seafood platters came soaring through the restaurant and were planted on our table. Top to bottom showcased Moreton Bay bugs, copious amounts of crab, handfuls of fresh prawns, grilled Barramundi fillets, tempura battered Flathead, salt and pepper calamari, chips and a side salad.
Lets be honest, the chips and salad were an instant discard - they just got in the way . . . the fresh seafood we were about to devour! And it didn't disappoint!
If your looking for a family friendly resort for your next holiday, Kingfisher is a must do for the bucket list. You can access the resort from Harvey Bay via passenger transfer. Alternatively you can take your own car and take the car barge from Inskip Point (Rainbow Beach) . The Manta Ray car barge collects you from the point and its about a 15 minute journey across the bay. Word of warning, the roads and access points from this end are all sand; you'll need a 4WD. You'll also need to watch the tides if you'd prefer to drive along the beachfront.
